The National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT) as the only accreditation body recognized by the government has the authority to implement an accreditation system for all higher education institutions including State Universities (PTN), Private Universities (PTS), Religious Universities (PTA) ) and Service Universities (PTK), distance education programs, as well as collaborative programs with domestic higher education institutions offered by foreign higher education institutions.

BAN-PT has the following tasks: Develop a national accreditation system, carry out institutional accreditation, carry out feasibility assessments for new study programs/colleges with the Directorate General of Higher Education, provide recommendations and evaluations for LAM (Independent Accreditation Institutions), and carry out accreditation of study programs that do not have a cognate LAM.
